I recently discovered the journal I kept while I was in middle school and, honestly, it's pretty hilarious. After reading through it, most of it seems to be about pretty run-of-the-mill middle school stuff. There were lots of girls that I liked, lots of trouble I got into regarding my grades, and lots of stuff about the basketball team I was on.
One interesting mini-narrative was this Christmas party I went to at one of my then girlfriend's friend's houses. For whatever reason I was journaling pretty heavily that week so the before and after account of the tweenaged rule-breaking extravaganza is pretty detailed.
This week I'm going to turn the text from my journal into a monologue that's been tagged to be produced by Soap Box Stage Productions on December 21st. It should be pretty funny and, I hope, an honest look at the awkward holiday season as seen through eighth grade eyes. More details to follow on the performance--it sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun so if you can make it, please do.
